Different kinds of books, serve different kinds of purposes.
For those who ask, “WHY decodables?” We appreciate this clear reply, “Decodable texts […] help children develop a sense of comfort in and control over their reading growth.” (Wiley Blevins, Choosing and Using Decodable Texts).
In other words...decodables EMPOWER children to feel SUCCESSFUL as readers, and that is plenty reason for us. 💪

It's been 2 months since the release of the Frog Series, our decodable readers for K-1 classrooms. Since that time, we've received wonderful photos from classroom teachers excited to share how they are using them in the classroom! 🐸📚
This month we want to again highlight WHAT decodable readers are and WHY they are important. Teachers, we hope you find these resources helpful, especially as parent-teacher conferences approach this spring!

Decodable Books: Frog Series (Grade 1)
$49
The Frog Series is a set of 8 decodable books for students in first grade. There are 4 fiction titles and 4 non-fiction (NF) titles. Each book was written to be decodable, comprehensible and engaging for our youngest readers. Stories are meant to be read in a single sitting (25-30 pages in length), and the skills increase in complexity with each book. All of the books in the Frog Series have comprehension questions, a writing prompt, and are 9x9 inches with a soft cover and durable thread-sewn binding.

The stories are unique, which is good when you are trying to get a struggling reader to buy in to reading.

These are AWESOME texts – I like that there is a lot of text on each page so students get much more practice of the phonics skills in the actual act of reading, and also work to increase their stamina. We will be purchasing more.

Fun to read with my kids.

Great set of books! I wish the text was set in a typeface that better differentiated the capital “I” from the lower case “l”

I have used the decodable readers with my Tier 3 1st grade students who need additional practice with digraphs and short vowels.
